Maya Hazarika dies after brief illness

Guwahati, Aug 26 (UNI) Ms Maya Hazarika, a leading figure in the Assamese circle in Shillong, passed away this morning at her Shillong residence after a brief illness.

She was 73 and is survived by two sons and grandchildren.

Ms Hazarika hailed from the renowned family of Priyadhar Barua of Nagaon in Asom.

A trained singer, Ms Hazarika used to earlier perform at the All India Radio, Shillong, with Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

A social activist, she led the Assamese circle in Shillong for over four decades in various positions.
