Flood toll in Rajasthan rises to 93

Jaipur, Aug 26 (UNI) Eight more bodies were recovered from the flood-affected Barmer district today taking the death toll in Rajasthan, due to floods, to 93.

Barmer district alone has reported 58 deaths.

Rajasthan Relief Minister Kirorilal Meena said eight more bodies were recovered by Navy divers from Maluva village in the day. With this, the toll in the worst-affected Maluva village alone has touched 20. The villagers had handed over a list of 36 missing people to the district administration earlier.

The minister said the state government has sought the help of 150 experts from Gujarat to dispose of the 47,000 livestocks which perished in the flood. He said it was important to dispose of these bodies in a scientific way as there was always the chance of an out break of diseases due to the decompostion of the animal bodies.

Mr Meena said the government has taken measures to prevent the outbreak of like malaria and other diseases due to the contamination of water.

He claimed power supply was restored in 578 villages.

He said the goverment has disbursed Rs 11.5 crore for relief work.
