Explosives found at Indo-Nepal border near Siliguri, Malda

Siliguri, Aug 26 (UNI) A day after police uncovered a terror strike attempt by unearthing nine bombs here, a plastic bag containing two IED explosives was recovered by securitymen at Panitanki, some 40 kms from this town in Indo-Nepal border.

In Malda station, police also today unearthed five live bombs and defused them.

Swasastra Surakha Bal (SSB) Deputy Inspector General Gyan Singh Sayana told UNI that three SSB jawans while on a patrol located the plastic bag, which was planted at an important landmark. A further search revealed that two Improvise Explosive Devices (IED) were packed inside the bag.

He said bomb disposal squads from Siliguri police and Army in Sukna have been called for disposal of those IEDs.

The reinforcement of SSB, which guards the Indo-Nepal border, was called to cordon off the area as panick spread among the people.

The DIG said the ''red colour'' bag was noticed at about 1400 hrs by the SSB men.

This was second such discovery of bombs in a span of 24 hours after Siliguri police foiled a terror attack by uncovering nine bombs and arrested two KLO rebels and as many CID constables, who were beleived to have planted the bombs to creat terror.

Meanwhile, DIG (CID) P Ravi reached here last night to investigate the terror crisis in the town.

DIG, North Bengal, Kishan Lal Meena, said raids were being conducted across the Darjeeling and neighbouring Jalpaiguri districts since yesterday following the bomb episode.

The CID sleuths, Biswajit Majumdar and Kailash Singh Roy, who were arrested in bombs episode were put under suspension.

Biswajit mastermined in arresting many KLO rebels. He was also recommneded for Governor's police medal for his outstading serivces.

Mr Rabi said today the two sleuths might not be truly involve in planting the bombs in two petrol pumps on Hill Cart Road.
