Electricity GRIDs linked up countrywide: PGCIL

New Delhi, Aug 26: In a move that would help evacuation of power from a surplus to a deficit region in the country, state owned PowerGrid Corporation of India (PGCIL) today said that Eastern, north-eastern, Western and Northern grids have been synchronised.

This move would help in streamlining the electricity evacuation system in the country where there are many regions with deficit power. The synchronisation would link up the country's grid to the total generating capacity of 88,000 MW from 250 generating stations.

Company officials said this is one of the largest synchronously connected Grid in the world which will facilitate free flow of power from surplus to deficit regions and bring in much needed economies in operation through reduction in spinning reserves, better fuel utilisation etc.

''This is an historic event in the history of power sector,'' the PGCIL official said.

At this juncture Tala HEP and East-North has been linked up with the rest of the grid an effort that has also involved the private players too, mainly the International Finance Corporation, the Financier.
