EC gives Imkong clean chit to Congress

Kohima, Aug 26: The Opposition Congress has got a shot in the arm following the Election Commission's quashing of the charges against the Leader of Opposition in the Nagaland Assembly I Imkong under the purview of Office of Profit (OoP).

Addressing a press conference here last night, Mr Imkong said the Additional Secretary of Law handed over the order, issued by Governor Shyamal Datta on August 22 after being published in the Nagaland Extraordinary Gazette.

Meanwhile, the Opposition Congress members filed a petition against Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for holding the office of profit as the Chairmen of Nagaland Bamboo Mission and State Sports Council.

Hearing was held at the office of Election Commision yesterday and the verdict is likely to be announced soon.
