CPM leader remanded to three-day judicial custody in HP

Shimla, Aug 26 (UNI) A local court in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh today remanded a state CPM leader, Kashmir Singh Thakur, to three-day judicial custody after five days of police custody following the registration of case under Sections 307 of the IPC.

Mr Singh would now be produced before the court on August 29 after judicial custody, party state secretariat member Sanjay Chauhan told UNI here.

The district police had arrested Mr Thakur in Chamba dsitrict on August 20 following the registration of a case under Section 307 of the IPC, hours after CITU workers allegedly beat a contractor of the construction company, executing the Chamera III hydel project.

Mr. Chauhan said that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had assured the party delegation that called on him yesterday to order an inquiry into the CPM leader's torture in the jail that night.

The delegation had demanded immediate suspension of the four police officials involved in the torture of the party leader in the jail, he said.

He said the delegation had asked the CM for the immediate suspension of Inspector Pratap, ASI Anup Katoch, Constable Victor and driver Surender for torturing Mr Thakur for over three hours on August 23 night.
