Congress workers court arrest in MP

Bhopal, Aug 26 (UNI) Hundreds of Congress workers today staged demonstration and courted arrest across the state under the 'Jail Bharo Andolan' protesting against the ''anti-public'' policies of the BJP Government.

The demonstration was organised alleging deterioration of law and order, rise of atrocities against minorities and women and absence of relief for those affected by natural calamity.

Claiming success, Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal said about 10,000 party workers courted arrest in three areas of the state capital.

State Congress President Subhash Yadav courted arrest along with about 5,000 party workers at Kasravad in Khargone.

Mr Yadav, while addressing a protest rally at Kasravad, said public had got fed up with the insensitive state government and its corrupt rule. It wanted a change in the government and administration.

Through public agitation, the Congress was demanding the Governor to rein in the government.

Mr Yadav claimed that a phase of change had begun with Congress workers going to villages and informing people about the state government's failure.

Besides, about 20,000 Congressmen were arrested from various block headquarters in the district under section 151 but were released later on a personal bond.

A UNI report from Ujjain said, police arrested 500 Congressmen, who were lodged in jails.

A memorandum was submitted in the name of the Governor at all places.
