Violence during a function brought up to distribute free cycles

Mysore, Aug 25 (UNI) In a violence marred function Karnataka Minister for Housing D T Jayakumar distributed free cycles to Eighth Standard girl students belonging to weaker section at Devalapura village, near here today.

All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) workers led by Mysore Zilla Panchayat Vice-President Marigowda, protesting against non-inclusion of his name in the Invitation, pulled down shamiana put up for the function.

Tension prevailed for some time as Janata Dal (S) activists and AIPJD workers indulged in a heated exchanges. Police intervened and brought the situation under control and arrested leaders and 60 workers.
