Vadik Munishaw upsets Samip Mehta, enters finals

Chennai, Aug 25 (UNI) Eighth seeded Vadik Munishaw of Gujarat upset his state-mate and top seed Samip Mehta in three tough sets to enter the under-14 singles final of the adidas-MCC Junior National Hard Court Tennis championship here today.

Munishaw won the opening set in tie-break, dropped the closely contested second, before pocketing the third for a 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3 win in nearly 75 minutes.

In the title clash tomorrow, he would meet sixth seed Mohit Mayur of Tamil Nadu, who accounted for fifth seed Sai Karthik of Andhra Pradesh 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets.

Results : Semifinals: Girls under-18: Rashmi Teltumbde (Maha) bt Aishwarya Srivatsav (Maha) 7-6(7), 3-0 (conceded), Tara Iyer (Delhi) bt Kelsey Sundaram (TN) 7-6(8) 6-2.

Boys under-18: Mohammed Fariz (TN) bt Tariq Jacob (TN) 7-6(3) 6-1; Akash Waugh (Maha) bt Sundanwa Sitaram (TN) 6-4, 6-4.

Girls Singles Under-14: Archana V (AP) bt Kyra Shroff (Kar) 6-2, 7-5; Rashmi Anand Teltumbde (Maha) bt Prerna Bhambri (Delhi) 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.

Boys Singles under-14: Mohit Mayur (TN) bt Sai Karthik (AP) 6-1, 6-2, Vadik Munishaw (Guj) bt Samip Mehta (Guj) 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3.
