TRS to step up stir for separate Telangana

Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) After coming out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) will now focus on its movement for statehood by organising meetings and programmes in the Telangana region from September.

Ending its uneasy stay in the Congress-led coalition at the Centre, the TRS, which found it hard to persuade the Congress to carve out a separate state for Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, would now concentrate on mounting pressure on the Congress to deliver the and long cherished statehood for the backward region, Party Legislature Party leader K Vijayarama Rao told UNI.

TRS Supremo K Chandrasekara Rao, along with party senior leader A Narendra would extensively tour the Telangana region and inspire people to carry forward the struggle from next month.

A series of meetings would be organised starting with Siddepet, the place which the party chief is sentimentally attached to, and later in Parakala, in Warangal, also a hot bed of the Telangana movement.

''We will step up the campaign in every village in the next two and half years and ensure that anti-Telangana parties have no future in the next assembly elections,'' he said adding that the party would strive to improve its strength in Parliament and the State Assembly to achieve the one-point goal of a separate state.

Disputing Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's contention that the state was witnessing all round development with focus on backward regions, including Telangana, he said no real development had taken place there.
