Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) The TDP today ridiculed the 'fast unto death' announced by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and demanded an explanation from the party as to why he had resorted to the fast and why he had given it up.

Talking to mediapersons in the Assembly premises after the House was adjourned till Monday, TDP deputy leader Dr Nagam Janardhana Reddy, while terming the fast 'a drama enacted by the Congress and the TRS to cheat the people of Telangana,' demanded an explanation from the TRS.

Mr Janardhana Reddy said Mr Chandrasekhara Rao and his party would have to explain to the people of Telangana why Mr Rao had resorted to fast and what promise he had obtained from the Centre that he had withdrawn it. He said Mr Rao had initially announced that his fast would be unto death and later ammended it to ''indefinite'' and finally changed it to a ''notional'' fast for two or three days.

He asked if Mr Rao could claim a place in history on par with Potti Sriramulu, who died after fasting for 42 days for the bifurcation of the Andhra area from the erstwhile Madras state.

The TDP leader said while through his supreme sacrifice Potti Sriramulu could achieve the formation of the Andhra State, Chandrasekhara Rao was hand in glove with the Congress-led UPA government and was cheating the people of the Telangana region.
