Six sentenced to life in a murder case

Puri, Aug 25 (UNI)Puri Additional Sessions judge B K Das has sentenced six people to life imprisonment, while holding them guilty in a four-year old murder case.

According to prosecution on August 4, 2002 evening eight people had attacked one Balaram Das (26) of Loknath road with lethal weapons near western side of the Jagannath temple. Balram later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

The town police had arrested six and charge sheeted them to stand trial in the sessions court, while two were absconding.

Meanwhile, one of the absentees accused surrendered in the court and his trial is under way while the other still remained at large.

The accused Dhaneswar Dutta Mahapatra, Rabi Dalbehera, Rabi Maharana, Samir Panda, Sanjit Pattnaik and Samsunder Sahoo were sentenced to life term by the Judge on August 23 last.
