MRS Academy, Surjit Academy in final

Chandigarh, Aug 25 (UNI) Maharaja Ranjit Singh Academy of Amritsar and Surjit Hockey Academy of Amristar qualified for the final of the fifth S N Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior Under-14 Hockey Tournament being played here today.

MRS Academy maintained their winning spree as they defeated GTBS Academy of Baba Bakala by 4-1 topped four-team league in the second phase with three wins. The MRS Academy boys displayed good stickwork as they outplayed the Baba Bakala team. The winners who led 3-0 at half time scored through Mandep Singh (4th minute, penalty stroke), Kanwarsubeg (7th, 21st) and Prabjinder (55th). Harsimran reduced the margin for MRS Academy. Lovdeep Singh of MRS Academy was declared the man of the match.

In the second dedicing match, Surjit Academy and SBK Academy, both of Jalandhar, played a one-all draw. Both teams finished the league programme with four points each from one win, one draw and one defeat.

However Surjit Academy moved into the final on the basis of their better goal average. In the league phase, Surjit Academy had scored six goals and conceded three goals. SBKS Academy got three goals in their favour and three against.

Gurminder Singh of Surjit Academy was declared man of the match.
