Militant killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 25 (UNI) Security forces shot dead a militant during an encounter in north Kashmir's Kupwara district last night, official sources said today.

They said the security forces cordoned off Lalpora village of Kupwara district late last night following a tip-off.

During the operation, militants opened fire on the search party which was retaliated and in the ensuing encounter one ultra was killed, the sources said.

Some arms and ammunition were seized from the encounter site, they said, adding the search operation was going on when reports last came in.

The identity of the slain ultra was yet to be established, the sources said.
