JPC to be constituted within a week: Dasmunsi

New Delhi, Aug 25: The Joint Parliamentary Committee to define the concept of Offices of Profit will be constituted within a week, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said today.

Briefing reporters after the conclusion of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, he said that Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had received the names of the MPs who would be the members of the JPC and the terms of reference of the Committee had been framed.

''A parliamentary bulletin to this effect would be issued within a week,'' Mr Dasmunsi said.

The decision to constitute a JPC was announced in the Lok Sabha by the Government a day before President A P J Abdul Kalam gave his assent to the Office of Profit Bill, returned to him by Parliament as it was, without making any changes in the original Constitutional Amendment Bill passed earlier.

The Bill, which has since become an Act of Parliament with the President giving assent to it, exempts 54 posts from the purview of being deemed Offices of Profit.
