New Delhi, Aug 25: Human Resource Development Arjun Singh today told the Lok Sabha that the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has decided to discontinue the text books of MA History course till the objectionable portions in it are reviewed by an Expert Committee.

Responding to a Calling Attention motion on the use of derogatory language about Hindu deities in the text books of MA course of IGNOU, he said the University had also sent letters to all students who have already cleared this course as well as to the currently enrolled students asking them to ignore the earlier version.

The students had also been informed that the corrected study material would be sent to them for their record and study, the Minister said.

The IGNOU would take suitable further action after the receipt of recommendations of the Expert Committee, constituted to review the entire course and make suggestions and amend the objectionable portions, he said, adding that such portions came to notice in the study material of Module 3 of an elective course of the MA History Programme in April this year.
