Eye donation is social responsibility: Minister

Kannur, Kerala, Aug 25 (UNI) Kerala Health Minister P K Sreemathy today said eye donation should be considered as a social responsibility.

Inaugurating the national eye-donation fortnight celebrations at Payyannur in the district, she said efforts would be taken to clear doubts on eye-donation.

Ms Sreemathy said though the demand for set up of an eye transplantation facility at the district hospital could not be met immediately, it would be kept under consideration.

She said steps would be taken to appoint at least one doctor in the Primary Health Centres (PHCs), where currently servicese of doctors were not available, by August 31.

The government had already taken steps to convert 115 hospitals as model hospitals with minimum available facilities, she added.
