CU to start 'smart' campus, transactions to go online

Kolkata, Aug 25 (UNI) Calcutta University will soon become a "smart campus," where all transactions will take place online.

The university with 12,500 post graduate students, over thousand permanent faculty members, 66 departments and eight campuses, is considered to be one of the largest in the country.

The volume of transactions slows down the whole process of work, which prompted the University authority to introduce such a project, CU Registrar Samir Bandopadhyay told UNI.

The university have decided to resolve this problem with the help of technology, by starting end-to-end campus through internet.

'' We aim to link not only the departments but all the stakeholders like management, faculty, staff and students, '' he said.

This project would help the students find registration details, admission records, attendance, performance in exams etc, he said.

However, everybody would not be able to access every data.

A team of 16 experts have been appointed to execute this project.

Speaking about how the intranet system would help save time, Mr Bandopadhyay said, the students would no longer have to stand in queue to fill up requisition for a library book. The netire catalogue would be digitised and a student will check it online, he said.

With this project on the folds, Senate and Syndicate proceedings of the last 150 years getting digitised.
