AIDS has killed 153 in UP: Govt.
Lucknow, Aug 25 (UNI) As many as 153 people have died of HIV/AIDS in Uttar Pradesh in the last six years, the government informed the legislative assembly today.
In a written reply, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said 153 people have died of the epidemic between January 1, 2000 and July 31, 2006.
''In a bid to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, the government is running several programmes, including low cost community care, condom promotion, surveillance training and education amongst school students,'' he said.
To enable patients get free medicines, three anti-retroviral therapy centres have been established at KGMU, Lucknow, BHU, Varanasi and L L RM medical college, Meerut.
