Guwahati, Aug 25 (UNI) Eight people, including a teenaged boy, were killed in separate road accidents in Sonitpur district of Asom today.

Police informed that in the first accident at 0645 hrs, a car with seven passengers hit a tree, about 11 km from Tezpur town. All the passengers in the car, including the 13-year-old boy, were killed.

Two of them died on the spot while the rest were declared dead on arrival at the hospital, police added.

The victims were on their way to Guwahati to participate in a television programme.

In another incident, a bus ran over a man near a police check post in Dhekiajuli, about 45 km from Tezpur, at about 1230 hours.

The bus was on its way from Thalamara to Orang.

When the driver tried to escape, the local people captured him and handed him over to the police.

The bus was burned down and the local police station ransacked as the people blamed the accident on the absence of personnel at the check post.

However, the situation was later brought under control.
