UN-AP knowledge sharing partnership launched
Hyderabad, Aug 24 (UNI) The United Nations (UN) and the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Forum today launched a knowledge sharing initiative here.
UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Representative for India and Bhutan Daniel Gustafson said during a seminar organised in connection with the golden jubliee celebrations of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly that both the UN and the Legislative Forum exchanged letters for the initiative.
He said the partnership between the UN and the AP Legislative Assembly Forum for human development and Millenium Development Goals (MDG) would be cemented further.
In a country like India where overseas development assistance formed a small percentage of development expenditure, the UN system brought a currency of ideas, international experience and a network of diverse partnerships to the development arena.
Mr Gustafson said the UN worked on diverse development issues with mandates ranging from promotion of human development to gender equality and poverty erradication.
The broad aim of the partnership was to use a variety of approaches and tools to support legislators in bringing a human development dimension to the state-level dialogue on policy issues.
Some mechanisms could be research support, focused discussions and sharing best practices through a variety of tools.
He said the UN initiative was aimed at supporting a network of development practioners to bring together their collective knowledge and experience to find solution to developmental challenges.
