Sun Microsystems opens 3 global APAC centre
Chennai, Aug 24: Sun Microsystems opened its third APAC control centre, the first in Chennai today.
Sun Microsystems Asia Pacific Vice-President Services Jeya Kumar said the company had one centre each both in US and Europe and the Chennai centre would look after Asia pacific area operations.
He said the 24/7 facility was a centralised operations center for managing and monitoring customers IT infrastructure and processes.
He said the APAC control centre was one of the key components of the managed operations with the capability of receiving data for customer site events, running millions of events per day, filtering actionable events and responding to customers within 15 minutes.
He said apart from routine operations, the centre would manage changes in customers sites, monitor and manage performance and inventory data.
The Chennai centre would initially have 300 skilled engineers who would integrate seamlessly with other centres in US and Europe, he added.
Director (services) Joyjit Chatterji said the company at present had 45 customers outside India and two inside the country.
He said the number of customers was expected to grow by ten times within four months.
