Robert Bosch ready to develop Electronic Control Units for India

Bangalore, Aug 24 (UNI) Robert Bosch was ready to develop special Electronic Control Units for the automobile sector in India in the near future, company Managing Director Waltor Grote said today.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said ''we are prepared to develop the Special ECUs specifically for the Indian market and it has become necessary for India, keeping in view the rapidly changing technologies across the world.'' He, however, declined to comment on whether the ECUs would be developed for the proposed small car project of the Tatas.

Mr Grote announced that a 'clean room' facility had been set up at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, as part of the Electronic Design Services, to validate the tester software used for testing in-house designed circuits and semiconductor devices. The facility conformed to 1,00,000 class (standard for clean room purity) and had the capability to be upgraded to class 1000. With this new facility, the company added another hi-tech dimension to its existing engineering activities like Engine Control Unit Design and Testing and Very Large Scale Integration services.

He said a common thread across the activities at Bosch India was the combination of German engineering and Indian technology talent, both of which were best-in-class to offer a competitive solution.

Mr Grote said the company's turnover was around Rs 395 crore and it was expected to increase by 30 per cent to 40 per cent next year.

Over 3,500 employees were currently on its rolls and the company was planning to add 1,000 associates every year.

The company had expanded its operations in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu in a rented premises. Negotiations were on with the State Government to secure a land in Special Economic Zone and further investments would be made after the land was allotted, he said, without divulging the details. The company had plans to employ 2,500 people by 2010, he added.
