Bomb scare at Wipro sends administration into tizzy

Kolkata, Aug 25: A bomb scare in sunshine sector's Wipro campus proved to be a hoax after five and a half hours of intense search.

Inspector General of South Bengal Surajit Kar Purokayastha told reporters, ''Our bomb squads and two sniffer dogs have been deployed and most of the campus area has been combed but nothing has been found. Most probably this was a hoax but we cant take any chances.'' Meanwhile, a Wipro employee said that an anonymous call that came in the afternoon threatened that the bomb will explode in the building by 2215 hrs tonight.

Operation have been suspended at Wipro from 1730 hrs and all the buildings were evacuated as a security measure.

Meanwhile, all top police officials arrived at the spot, sniffer dogs and bomb squads deployed and RAF swung into action.

This is the thrid bomb hoax in the city in a month after a hoax at sector V in Salt Lake and the busy industry house that houses more than 100 offices on Camac street.

Incidentally, the Wipro house is also located at Sector V at Salt Lake.
