Sensex opens 77 points in the green, dips soon

Mumbai, Aug 23: Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index (Sensex) after opening 77 points in the green at 11,579.92 points, dipped into the negative zone as the hike in crude oil price to US dollar 72.63 per barrel mark weighed on the select scrips concerned with oil.

Currently, the Sensex is trading at 11,473.96 points, which is 29 points down from the previous close.

Key benchmark indices in Asian countries like Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan were down between 0.3-0.68 per cent.

Meanwhile, the midcap is up 0.02 per cent and the smallcap is up by 0.21 per cent.

Amongst the sectoral indices like auto, bankex, CD, Capital Goods, HC and FMCG were all down betweeen 0.59 to 0.20 per cent.

Top gainers on the index were Reliance Energy, Dr Reddy's, NTPC, Hindalco, BHEL, Gujarat Ambuja, Tata Steel, Satyam Computers, Tata Motors and Infosys, all up between 0.10 to 1.24 per cent.

Besides, the losers on the index were HDFC, Cipla, Ranbaxy, HDFC Bank, SBI, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Auto, L&T, Maruti Udyog and ONGC, all down between 0.56 to 2.06 per cent.
