Jabalpur, Aug 23: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has reserved its order on a petition for rehabilitation of about 10,000 people displaced in 91 villages coming under the submergence zone of the Indira Sagar Dam Project in Khandwa district.

Hearing a petition filed by the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), a division bench comprising Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice Shantanu Sharad Kumar reserved the judgement after final hearing.

The petitioner told the court that several villages came under the submergence zone of the dam having a maximum height of 261 m.

However, the state government was not providing adequate rehabilitation for the affected.

The petition stated that the normal water level height of the dam during rainy season remained at 245 m affecting 10,000 families.

These families were displaced without being provided rehabilitation or compensation.

The petition prayed the court to direct the state government to provide adequate compensation and proper rehabilitation to the affected.
