Rape victim dies

Jaipur, Aug 22 (UNI) A 15-year-old girl, who attempted self-immolation after being gangraped by four youths at Manauj village in Karoli district on August 15, has succumbed to her burn injures.

She was cremated today at her village.

The girl was admitted to SMS hospital here on August 17 after she suffered 70 per cent burns. In her statement to the police, she had mentioned the names of the four youths but the police were able to arrest only one accused, Lalit, while three are still absconding.

After being gangraped, the girl did not narrate her ordeal even to her parents, but a day later out of guilt she set herself afire.

In a statement to the police, she had stated the reason for taking the extreme step and mentioned the names of the quartet, who belong to the same village.

According to the police, the family of the victim had a quarrel with the family of Lalit some time back over a piece of property and they were figting a legal case regarding that.
