EC summons Rio on OoP case

Kohima, Aug 22 (UNI) The Election Commission has summoned Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to appear in person or through a duly appointed lawyer before the Commission in Delhi on August 25 for a hearing of Office of Profit (OoP) issue.

The hearing is in regard to the question raised before the governor in terms of Clause(1) of Article 192 of the Constitution by the opposition leader I Imkong and 14 other MLAs through a memorandum on March 28, demanding disqualification of Rio alleging that he is holding OoP.

EC Secretary K F Wilfred had informed Rio that he would not be given any traveling or daily allowance for attending the hearing.

However, Rio would technically not be able to attend the EC hearing as the state assembly session would be sitting on the same day, official sources said.
