UP Guv regrets missing Bismillah's tunes on Dussehra

Varanasi, Aug 21 (UNI) Describing the demise of Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan as an irreparable loss to the world of music, Uttar Pradesh governor T V Rajeswar today lamented that Raj Bhawan's wish of basking in the melody of shehnai legend on Dussehra will now remain unfulfilled.

''Khan Sahib promised me to play his signature tunes to mark the festival of Dussehra at Raj Bhawan in October next, but the Almighty has put an end to Khan Sahib's resolve of blessing Raj Bhawan with his peerless melody,'' Mr Rajeswar told newspersons after paying last respects to the departed soul.

The UP governor placed a wreath at the body of the Bharat Ratna and consoled the grieving family at the Hara Sarai house of the music legend.

Describing Khan Sahib as a jewel of global music, Mr Rajeswar said his demise has not only caused an irreparable damage to the nation but also to the world.

Mr Rajeswar said as a mark of respect to the departed soul, a state mourning had been declared and the shehnai wizard will be buried with full state honours.

The governor, however, denied that there were any lapses in the treatment of Khan Sahib.

Meanwhile, UP power minister Shiv Pal Singh Yadav also visited the house of shehnai maestro and paid rich tributes to the departed soul.
