Peruvian air force jet crashes in Brazil, 2 killed
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 21 (Reuters) Two Peruvian airmen were killed when their light attack jet crashed in Brazil's Amazon region as it headed to a joint South American military exercise, the Brazilian air force said today.
The Cessna A-37 ''Dragonfly'' crashed and burst into flames soon after takeoff from the Jorge Teixeira airport in Rondonia state yesterday, an air force spokesman said.
It was en route to the Brazilian state of Goias for the Southern Cross 3 exercise that brings together air force units from the South American countries of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela as well as France.
The cause of the accident was being investigated.
