Frenzy over deities drinking milk unfortunate : Bhattacharjee
Kolkata, Aug 21 (UNI) Describing the mass frenzy over idols 'drinking' milk, as 'unfortunate' West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today called for honing scientific temper among people and discouraging superstitious beliefs.
''It is unfortunate that a large number of people are still guided by illogical views and do not have scientific outlook to judge matters,'' the chief minister told reporters reacting to reports of thousands of awe struck people crowding temples in different parts of the country to offer milk and watch deities 'drink', which, according to scientists, is a a simple effect of surface tension.
''Scientific temper should be cultivated among the people and superstitious beliefs discouraged,'' he said adding that the people should be more aware as well as alert against rumours.
