DIG (Rail) files anticipatory bail petition

Hajipur, Aug 21 (UNI) An anticipatory bail petition was filed by DIG (Rail) Ajay Verma here after an arrest warrant was issued against him by a local court for misusing his position.

Mr Verma's counsel, Justice P K Jha filed the bail petition in the district and sessions court of Vaishali, which will be heard on August 23.

After filing the petition, the DIG's wife, Sampat Verma alleged that the Muzaffarpur IG Suneet Kumar had threatened her over telephone.

''Dreaded criminals are roaming free while my husband is being treated like a criminal,'' she added.

She also demanded a fresh inquiry into the case by Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah and other higher officials.

Earlier, a retired school teacher, Rajendra Rai had lodged a case here on January 24 alleging undue interference of the DIG in his family dispute, sources said.
