Deities 'drink' milk in Asom too

Guwahati, Aug 21 (UNI) Devotees made a beeline for temples in Asom after receiving reports of deities 'drinking' milk in other parts of the country.

A huge rush was particularly observed during the morning hours as people stood in long queues to offer milk to the deities.

In a shift from the 1995 hysteria when only idols of lord Ganesh were said to have 'drunk' milk, this time milk was being offered to all gods and goddess.

Mrs Arati Devi of Fancy Bazar area of the city, who was among the first to offer milk, said, ''First the sea water in Mumbai turned sweet, now the gods are drinking milk. This surely indicates good times for the country.'' However, another devotee, Rameshwar Das maintained that these were omens of impending dangers. '' The Gods have indicated of a major catastrophe and we must be prepared to face the challenges,'' he added.

Though no confirmation of the deities actually drinking milk could ever be hoped to be received, faith prevailed supreme among the believers.
