Dasara festivities set into motion

Mysore, Aug 21 (UNI) Karnataka Public Works Minister H D Revanna today set into motion the preparations for the world famous Dasara celebrations beginning here on September 23, which would be conducted in a grand manner to commemorate the 50th year of formation of Karnataka State.

State government would release adequate funds for the purpose and private companies were also expected to contribute with handsome sums to make the festivities a grand success.

Addressing the media persons here he announced that Rs one crore would soon be released for the tourism development in the city before the Dasara festivities. The corporation had submitted a proposal of Rs five crore for the development of roads and one crore for parks. The government would consider these proposals favorably, he assured.

He also announced that sufficient funds would be released to the district administration for the conduct of Dasara festivities. His department would consider another proposals seeking Rs two crore for the repair of the heritage buildings and their decoration. Another Rs 40 lakhs would be release shortly by his department for the illumination of roads in the city.

The government as working on a mission to make Mysore a model district in the state. This year's festivities would see a publicity blitz to rope in tourists from all over the country, he said.

The inauguration of the festivities atop Chamundi hills would be followed by spectacular fireworks later in the night. Instruction have been issued to constitute subcommittees to undertake various works and publicity material would be printed in Kannada, Hindi, English and other languages to reach out to more number of tourists in the country, he added.
