CS appointed as chief information commissioner: Rangasamy

Pondicherry, Aug 21 (UNI) The Pondicherry administration has appointed Chief Secretary (CS) as the Chief Information commissioner, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr Rangasamy said the administration had the powers to appoint the Chief Information commissioner as per section 2005 clause 15(3) of the Right to Information Act and information commissioners would be appointed as per requirements.

AIADMK legislator A Anbazhagan then asked how could the government appoint a chief secretary, who is in office as the chief information commissioner. This was done as if to do certain favouritism to someone, he alleged.

Replying, Mr Rangasamy said the chief secretary should be believed and he was performing his duty well by clearing 242 out of the 287 applications received.

To another question, Education and Transport Minister M O H F Shajahan said the administration would consider introduction of ''ladies special'' and ''students special'' buses here during peak hours to accomodate students.
