Kolkata, Aug 21 (UNI) Veteran communist leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu suffered injuries after a fall in his Salt Lake residence here last night.

Mr Basu's confidential assistant Joykrishna Ghosh, however, today said the overall condition of the nonagenarian leader was 'allright' and did not suffer any fracture.

The incident occurred when the nonagenarian leader took a tumble in the bathroom and received injuries on his right hip bone and right elbow, Mr Ghosh said.

After doctors examined him and administered medicines, Mr Basu took rest before being x-rayed in the evening. The reports showed no fracture, he said.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Left Front Committee Chairman Biman Basu called on Mr Basu at his Indira Bhavan residence to inquire about his health.

Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also rang up to know about his condition.

Mr Basu, who celebrated his 92nd birth anniversary on July eight, is still active in politics and performs his duty as one of the seniormost Politbureau members of the CPI(M). Before the last Assembly elections in West Bengal, the veteran politician had a busy schedule of addressing several election meetings campaigning for Left Front candidates.
