Almathy sub-station commissioned
Tiruvallur, Aug 21: Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy inaugurated a Rs 150-crore 400 KV Sub Station at Almathy here.
In his address on the occasion yesterday, Mr Veerasamy said though the project was cleared by him during his earlier tenure, in 2000, it could be commissioned only now as the previous government did not pay attention to it.
He claimed Chief Minister M Karunanidhi cleared over a 1000 files kept pending by the previous AIADMK regime for the last two years.
Mr Veerasamy said the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board could earn additional revenues from export of surplus power to other states.
The Minister said several foreign investors of Indian origin had expressed keen interest to invest in the power sector in the state as Tamil Nadu offered conducive atmosphere for making such investments.
By 2011, Tamil Nadu's power generation was likely to double to 20,000 MW thereby making the state self-sufficient in energy.
The new sub-station will help in stable power tranmission to Chennai city and its suburbs.
Efforts were also on to eradicate power failure and low voltage problems. Tenders had been floated for 14,000 transformers of which 4,000 were installed in problematic areas.
