Vidarbha delegation to meet PM on sugar mills

Nagpur, Aug 20: A delegation from Vidarbha will shortly meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urge him to initiate measures to revive sick sugar mills in the region.

Rajya Sabha member Vijay Darda and former Maharashtra Minister Ranjit Deshmukh told a press conference here today that four of the sixteen sugar mills in Vidarbha had fallen sick and needed to be revived.

The Government, they suggested, should allow these mills to repay loans over a 30-year period instead of the 15-year period and the Maharashtra Government should provide a guarantee in this regard.

Apart from meeting the Prime Minister, the delegation will also meet Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar and Minister for Finance P Chidambaram, they informed.
