Two killed in post-poll violence in AP
Khammam, Andhra Pradesh, Aug 20 (UNI) Two persons were killed in post poll violence in Venkatapuram thanda (tribal habitat) under Garla Mandal in this district following clashes between activists of the Congress and the CPI(M) today.
When election authorities declared that the Congress candidate had won by one vote in the recent Panchayat polls, the CPI(M) demanded a recounting. The authorities after a recount declared that the CPI(M) candidate had won by one vote.
This sparked off violent clashes between activists of the two parties, leading to the death of a former Upa Sarpanch of the village belonging to the CPI(M) and a woman worker of the Congress.
Two huts and a motor cycle were also set on fire by miscreants.
Police brought the situation under control.
