Son arrested for murdering BJP MLA

Akola, Aug 20 (UNI) The 20-year-old son of former BJP MLA Prof Yadavrao Punjaji Shikhre, who was brutally murdered on Thursday, was arrested from Washim late last night in connection with the murder.

Police today said Prashant confessed to killing his father with the help of his friends. He told the investigating officer that the incident was the result of his differences with his father. However, the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, it was stated that all family members of the deceased had gone to Ambad for a function. A case of robbery was lodged against the unidentified assailants. However, Prashant had stayed back and was seen before the incident by one police official.

During interrorgation, Prashant stated that the other killers were from Malkapur in Buldhana district. A police team has been sent to arrest the absconding. He has been booked under IPC section 302 read with 84 for murder, the police said, adding, that further details were awaited.
