New Delhi, Aug 20: Supreme Court will pronounce its judgement on the PIL (public interest litigation) challenging of the appointment of a special judge on Monday.

The purpose of the special judge was to disproportionate the assets case filed against RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi.

A bench comprising of Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice A R Lakshmanan and Justice S H Kapadia will deliver its verdict on the PIL. It was filed by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi and JD(U) leader Rajeev Ranjan Singh Lallan. They have challenged the quashing of income tax cases against the Railway Minister and his wife.

In the PIL, the NDA leaders questioned the appointment of additional district judge Munni Lal Paswan as special CBI judge to try the disproportionate assets case, an offshoot of the fodder case involving Lalu and Rabri Devi.

Senior advocate Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Lalu and his wife, had contended that the PIL was not maintainable as it was politically motivated, and if the appointment of Paswan as special judge to try the case was quashed, it would set a wrong precedent as aspertions would be cast on the judge in all sensitive cases.
