DSA team visits Mullapperiyar dam
Idukki, Aug 20 (UNI) A two-member high-level official team of Kerala Dam Safety Authority (DSA) today visited the Mullapperiyar dam to assess the safety of the dam in the wake of a mild tremor recorded in the area on Friday.
The team consisting of IDRB Chief Engineer N Sasi and Inter-State Water Resource Chief Engineer K Divakaran took note of the structural safety of the 110-year old dam and directed the authorities there to make a 10-day observation of the dam.
They said a report on the inspection will be submitted to the government tomorrow.
A mild earthquake, measuring 2.2 on the Richter Scale, was felt at the popular Thekkady wildlife sanctuary area around 17 km from the dam on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
