Army deployed for rescue operations; 12,000 evacuated
Palanpur, Gujarat Aug 20 (UNI) Army has been called in at Radhanpur town in Patan district after crack in Bhad Talao (Tank) and heavy downpour flooded the town and surrounding areas.
According to Mamlatdar Mr L F Vasaiya, the flowing of water from Bhad Talao has submerged major parts of the town and also submerged National Highway No 14 connecting Delhi-Kandla.
Meanwhile, Patan and Banaskantha districts authorties have shifted over 12,000 people from low-lying areas which are affected by these floodings.
However, the Banaskantha district collector Hareet Shulka and Pathan district collector Mr J D Bhad have denied reports of any casualities so far.
The duo said that the present inflow of 50,000 cusecs of water in Dantiwada dam was on account of heavy rains in the catchments of Banas River in Rajasthan, breakage in Gangasagar a check dam near Amirgadh 40 Km from here, and breakage in Bhad Talao.
