Tribal students suspend stir in Maniopur

Imphal, Aug 19 (UNI) The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) has suspended all forms of agitations regarding their demands in Manipur with immediate effect.

The ATSUM, which had been demanding implementation of schemes meant for welfare of the tribal communites and proper reservation policies, has singed an agreement on suspension of all sort of agitation.

ATSUM sources said today this was decided following assurance from the Manipur government that the Education department would finalise list of all vacancies for posts of teachers and filled them with candidates from SC/ST.

The teachers who have been appointed on contract basis in the hill areas would be re-engaged on contract for another 85 days and pay will be released by August 22. The notification for payment of pension for district council employees would be issued by August 22.

The Department of Personnel will complete the SC/ST Reservation Rules along-with the requirements of amendments of the Act within September 18. Issues of delegation of financial power and administrative power to the Additional Director (Hills) of the Education department will also be resolved within a day or two.
