Terrorism a national problem: M M Joshi

Allahabad, Aug 19 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former union HRD minister Murli Manohar Joshi today said terrorism was a national problem and should be faced unitedly rising above party politics.

Talking to newspersons here, Dr Joshi regretted some outfits, for the sake of vote politics, were supporting ''terrorist'' organisations like Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

''The way Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has given the clean chit to SIMI is unfortunate. It indicates he has no courage to fight terrorism.'' he said.

Dr Joshi said while on one hand the Chief Minister was trying to withdraw cases against SIMI activists, on the other hand UPCC chief Salman Khurshid was saying the ban on the oufit was a 'fascist' step and was even fighting SIMI's case in Supreme Court.

''This indicates, they are interested in Muslim votes and not national security. There is a competition between Samajwadi Party and Congress to mobilise Muslims in their favour.'' he allaged.

The former BJP president said the terrorists' activities were fast spreading in the north-east states.

''A large number of terrorists are entering India daily and murdering innocents and damaging property. Their aim is to not only damage the democratic set up of the country, but ruin our economy, cultural heritage and brotherhood.'' he siad.

Citing the recent bomb explosions in Mumbai and Varanasi, he said such incients will make foreign investors hesitant from coming to India.

Dr Joshi claimed Pakistan's ISI was using Bangladesh for terrorist attacks on India. ''Pakistan aims at capturing Kashmir with the help of terrorists.''he claimed.

The former Allahabad University professor observed terrorists had no faith and their only religion was to spread terror and target innocents.
