MP flood damage colossal: Chouhan

Raisen, MP, Aug 19 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said heavy rains and flood in the state had left more than 80 people dead, while a damage of about Rs 1,000 crore was being estimated.

After visiting areas hit by rain and flood in the district, Mr Chouhan told UNI here that 24 out of 48 districts in the state were affected causing widespread damage to life and property.

He said about 2,500 cattle head died and crop of over lakhs of hectare got affected. ''The state government is committed to dealing with the natural calamity and providing relief to the affected,'' Mr Chouhan said, announcing ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to the family members of the deceased.

He added that in case of water entering houses, Rs 2,000 would be provided as immediate assistance. Directions had been given to provide 50 kg foodgrains and kerosene besides other materials.
