Modi hints mega scam on contracts for 'sand auction'

Patna, Aug 19 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi today said a scam of more than Rs one crore was detected in connection with contracts given for 'sand auction' in different ghats of Nawada district.

Mr Modi told newspersons said a contract was finalised with Arun Yadav at Rs 2.24 crores for auction of sands and Rs 68 lakhs was deposited through 'treasury challan' while the rest was paid through bank draft. On verification of draft and treasury challans worth Rs 1.13 crores were found fake, he added.

Suspecting that the racket was behind it, a thorough search operation was launched to nab Mr Arun Yadav on the basis of address given in the document, but no such person was found in the concerned area. All the documents pertaining to the contract were also missing which was an indication of involvement of the officials, he alleged.

'The Bihar government has ordered for thorough probe into all contracts in the state to detect any such irregularities in other districts of the state,' he informed. Some incriminating documents of Mr Arun was recovered from the hideouts of RJD leader and former minister Rajballabh Yadav besides Independent MLA Kaushal Yadav, he claimed.
