Mettur reaches full reservoir level
Mettur, Aug 19: The Stanley Reservoir at Mettur reached its Full Reservoir Level of 120 ft at 0930 hrs this morning, the first time to do so this year.
State PWD sources said the inflow was 61,387 cusecs and discharge 24,313 cusecs.
Last year, the dam achieved a record of maintaining over 100 ft storage continuously for a year. Another record achieved last year was discharging surplus waters continuously for 81 days. The previous record was 79 days in 1964. Similarly, it registered another record of getting surpluss water four times in a single year last year.
The dam was opened on August 21, 1931 at Mettur in Salem District and was named after Sir George Stanley, then Governor General of Madras. A beautiful park nearby was named after Lady Stanley.
Mettur is the lifeline of the Cauvery delta districts.
