Army enquiry on Manorama case over
Imphal, Aug 19 (UNI) The army has completed the internal inquiry on the alleged rape and murder of Th Manorama by 17 Assam Rifles in July 2004.
Lt Gen Arvind Sharma, GOC in Chief, Eastern Command, today said the army was awaiting disposal of the case by the High Court. The matter was pending at the High Court.
''Actions cannot be taken on the basis of the inquiry conducted by the army as it will tantamount to contempt of court,'' he said.
The incident had sparked off a major crisis in Manipur with the people demanding repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 which provides extraordinary powers to the military.
