NMCME to solve problems of minority educational institutions

Chennai, Aug 18 (UNI) The standing committee of the National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education (NMCME) is undertaking a survey on total number of minorities educational institutions in the country, as part of its efforts to solve the problems faced by the these institutions.

Committee's Chairman Zafar Ali Naqvi told news persons today here that the committee visited 70 districts in the country so far, and submitted its report to the Union Government for suitable remedies.

He said the committee found that such institutions in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were not granted recognition, No Objection Certificate (NOC) and not sanctioned the statutory financial grants.

The committee has already taken up this issue with the Centre, he added.

Referring to Tamil Nadu government's unilateral decision taking away the 65 per cent seats of minority run professional self financing colleges against the Apex court's ruling, Mr Naqvi said the committee will take up the issue with both the state and the Centre shortly.

He said 80 per cent of the problems faced by the minority institutions were due to the attitude of the state governments and the Central bodies like the UGC, AICTE and NCERT.

He said the Union Human Resource Develoment Ministry constituted a National Commission on Minorities Education recently, to deal with the problems of minorities education.

He said the state government's practice of granting recognition for a period of one year created lot of hardships to those institutions. They should be granted permanent recognition, he added.

On Tamil Nadu government's decision of introducing Tamil as compulsory subject in all the schools in the state, he said the decision would severely affect the minorities. The only way to solve the issue was introducing a three language formula, he added.
